Who We Are
I've always been drawn to things that are tangible. A vinyl record spinning on a turntable. A well-worn cast iron pan. A perfectly balanced chef's knife. A mechanical watch that's been quietly marking time for half a century. There's something deeply satisfying about objects that are made with intention and meant to last.
Before Mad River Time, I spent decades as a professional chef. The kitchen taught me more than how to cook—it taught me discipline, presentation, patience, and an unwavering attention to detail. Those same values shape every watch I buy, photograph, and offer for sale.
My appreciation for watches began much earlier, though. I owe that to my father. One day he handed me a broken wristwatch, and instead of throwing it away, I took it apart. I can still remember the amazement of discovering dozens of tiny components working together to create something so beautifully mechanical. That curiosity never really left me.
Over the years, I began to travel and combining the love of these two things became a little bit of an obsession. When one watch became ten, then a hundred, and eventually a collection that had grown beyond something to simply keep for myself. I realized the greatest joy wasn't owning these pieces—it was finding them, learning their stories, and passing them along to someone who would appreciate them just as much.
That's what Mad River Time is all about: thoughtfully chosen vintage watches, each with its own history, ready for the next chapter on someone else's wrist.
